Richard and his new Jaguar XJ outside the Colomb d'Or Restaurant in Saint-Paul de Vence. Regular readers will remember that Richard Madeley took a Jaguar XK Convertible for a blat down to Cornwall and back last year to give us his feedback. If you read that piece it won’t shock you to know that our old mate Richard has been waiting patiently to take delivery of a new Jaguar XJ since then.
The 2012 Mercedes F1 car will be at Edinburgh’s Race the Runway 2014 event
In 2013, Mercedes decided to cough up sponsorship to help the Race the Runway event at Edinburgh Airport, and it must have been a success as Mercedes are back again as event sponsors. The Race the Runway event is an opportunity for car owners to blat their cars down the runway at Edinburgh Airport and generate cash for a worthy cause – the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Participants have to cough up a £300 donation to the charity to get the chance to see what their car can do, for which they get a free lunch as well as the thrill of flat-out driving on the runway, and can even bring a passenger along.

Ford looks set to sell Jaguar/Land Rover (JLR) to Tata. In a statement to JLR workers today, Ford of Europe chairman Lewis Booth said: ‘Ford is committed to focused negotiations at a more detailed level with Tata Motors concerning the potential sale of the combined Jaguar Land Rover business.’ This is the first time that Ford has publicly revealed the identity of any bidder for JLR.
JLR has been up for sale since June 2007, and other potential bidders include rival Indian vehicle maker Mahindra Group and private finance group One Equity fronted by former Ford CEO Jac Nasser. Tata itself already owns a few famous names, including Tetley Tea and Corus (formerly British Steel).
